My Best Helper
When The Canadian Contingent visits I get a great helper. Ellie is ready to help Southern Grandma do just about anything! In fact, when they come in the door, the first thing she usually says is to ask me, “What are you going to do with me today?”
We have a great time puttering around in the kitchen, doing crafts of one kind or another, and Ellie also helps do the outside animal chores.
One day while they were here, The Farmer stopped at an outlet for Amish produce near his office and picked up some blueberrries. I like using them in muffins and smoothies, so wanted to freeze a bunch. They were a lot more expensive than I expected, so I didn’t freeze as many as I’d hoped to do, but still, we got about 6 pints done.
Ellie helped me put them on cookie sheets to pop them in the freezer. I like to let them freeze in a single layer, so they will don’t end up in one big lump in the bags.
After the berries froze into hard little marbles, then we put them in bags to store in the freezer. Ellie did a great job holding the bags open while I poured in the frozen berries.
In fact, she and her new buddy, Olaf, helped me do lots of things while they were here! The only thing was Olaf sang the same song over and over and over, and I got the words stuck in my head… IN SUMMER!!!!!!!!
Bees-a-buzz, kids’ll blow dandelion fuzz
And I’ll be doing whatever snow does in summer.
A drink in my hand, my snow up against the burning sand
Prob’ly getting gorgeously tanned in summer.
I’ll finally see a summer breeze, blow away a winter storm.
And find out what happens to solid water when it gets warm!
And I can’t wait to see, what my buddies all think of me.
Just imagine how much cooler I’ll be in summer.
Dah dah, da doo, uh bah bah bah bah bah boo
The hot and the cold are both so intense,
Put ’em together it just makes sense!
Rrr Rat da dat dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah doo
Winter’s a good time to stay in and cuddle,
But put me in summer and I’ll be a — happy snowman!
When life gets rough, I like to hold on to my dream,
Of relaxing in the summer sun, just lettin’ off steam.
Oh the sky will be blue, and you guys will be there too
When I finally do what frozen things do in summer!!!
Kristoff: I’m gonna tell him.
Anna: Don’t you dare!
Olaf (passionately): IN SUMMER!!!!!!!!
