Nothing Runs Like A Deere
Even on the beach, you can’t get away from farm tractors.
We saw lots of all-terrain type of vehicles, but this was the only type tractor we saw.
Guess even in surf and sand, nothing runs like a Deere!
Visiting Panama City Beach – Day 1
Our first day at Panama City Beach in Florida, we had rain for most of the day. While waiting out the rain, I took this picture from the balcony of our little condo room. I liked the bright splash of color the two umbrellas made amidst all that darker colors of surf and sand.
There was a pier on down the beach shrouded in mist because of all the rain.
The sun finally did peep out for a couple of short periods, and we took ourselves off to the beach. When we walked along the beach, there were lots of these little birds darting back and forth following the waves as they came in and out.
These little Sanderlings (Calidris alba) scurry along the surf line probing the sand with their long bills to find tiny crustaceans, mollusks, marine worms and insects.
There were lots of gulls, too. My favorite was this pirate version – a one legged gull:
He hopped along in great pirate fashion, and having one leg didn’t seem to hinder the bird in any way.
People were out enjoying the ocean almost as soon as the sun came out. I enjoyed watching this daddy playing with his little girl, and listening to her laugh with delight when the waves splashed her legs.
Some of the braver souls were giving parasailing a try. (For the record, I wasn’t one of them, ha, ha!)
That’s about all we did the first day. . . walk along the beach after it quit raining, and drove around a little to check out the town. We explored further afield as the week went on however!
A Farmer At The Beach
We’re here, and we’re enjoying ourselves even though it’s rained every day. We’ve still managed to walk on the beaches. Here’s The Farmer wearing his John Deere shirt and playing in the surf.
I’ll put more pictures up when we get home. I’m dealing with a dial-up connection and an antiquated laptop, which means it just takes way too long to upload pictures!
Life’s Gonna Be A Beach
At least for the next week.
Yes, it’s true. We’re headed to Panama City Beach, Florida. It’s after midnight now, so I guess later this morning! (Monday)
Most of our vacations are tied to visiting family. This one isn’t. Getting to see family is nice, but I’m also looking forward to this time of just me and The Farmer goofing off at the beach.
We can sightsee, walk the beaches, take pictures, and if we get tired, take a little catnap!
Hopefully the weather will be nice and we’ll have a fun week with no problems!
We Made It To Manitoba!
We did indeed make it to Denver, then on to Manitoba. We weren’t impressed with the service of United however. I tried many different ways to get seat assignments ahead of time, but it just didn’t work. Not at the United desk in the main terminal, not at the desk at the gate our plane left from.
In fact, the guy manning the desk at the gate didn’t show up until maybe half an hour before the plane was due to leave, and there were at least a couple dozen people that needed help with their ticketing. It was a mess.
At least the planes left on time, and arrived on time, so although we got to Manitoba later than originally planned, we did get there!
The temperature is about 30 degrees cooler here! We’ve been enjoying the milder weather here, and longer days. And of course, visiting!
Yesterday we just hung out around the house. There is a big field planted with soybeans behind the house.
On behind the field are more fields that were used for hay.
Today there was a family wedding here, so our 4-year-old granddaughter, Ellie, had her hair done for the first time. We went to a park to get some pictures of her. They had some beautiful beds of flowers.
I realize I’m biased, but I think our our little princess outshone the flowers.
Ellie and The Farmer/Grandpa took a break and sat on a bench for a while.
And lastly, with a good lesson for us all. . .
. . . Always take time to stop and smell the flowers!
