Spring is Coming!

March 16, 2012

February is past, and although spring isn’t officially here, the signs are everywhere.  The trees are throwing out pollen by the bucket load, and many spring flowers are in bloom.  We’ve had daffodils for weeks , and the forsythia is also blooming.  (That’s buttercups and yellow bells to many people, particularly here in the south.)

The Farmer and I went for a walk in the woods last weekend, and could see a lot of trillium up and in bud.  I only saw one Trout Lily in bloom, but the woods will be carpeted with them shortly.

Trout Lily (Erythronium americanum)

There were other wildflowers, but I didn’t know the names. This one grows all over the place, and fairly carpets some fields.

Name this flower!

Then there was this little plant growing among some moss at the base of a tree. . .

What is this plant??

It reminded me of a miniature version of the Hens and Chicks succulents my grandmother used to grow.  These are so tiny though!

If you know the name of either plant, please enlighten me!

Of course, any time we go back in the woods, Toby has to wade around in the creek.

Water wading is such fun!

It doesn’t matter if it’s hot or cold, whatever the weather that dog loves to splash around in the creek!
